Medical Director


As Medical Director you will head the General Secretariat’s Programme Unitwith 15 staff. You will report directly to the Secretary-General and be part of the Management Team. With your solid professional background and networks you will be the driving force both internally in the IRCT’s global organisation as

well as in relation to establishing external partnerships with leading research institutions and universities regarding treatment of torture survivors.



This entails developing and implementing global treatment programmes for torture survivors in close collaboration with the IRCT treatment centres worldwide. You will also have responsibility for designing the strategic plan of

the unit in coherence with the short and long-term objectives of the IRCT, and facilitating knowledge-sharing among the centres with a focus on strengthening North-South partnerships.



Furthermore, as Medical Director, you will be responsible for developing and contributing to the IRCT scientific journal TORTURE as well as representing the IRCT at health-related meetings/conferences.



To fulfil the position you possess the following qualifications:



• Medical degree and substantial experience in research

• Strong scientific record and publication list

• Several years of experience in international health work

• Several years of experience in staff and programme management

• Excellent professional networks

• Perfect command of English, written and spoken

• Command of other major languages is an asset.

Comprising 139 treatment centres in 71 countries, the IRCT also works for the prevention of torture, documenting torture cases and advocating respect for the absolute prohibition against torture. The IRCT General Secretariat in Copenhagen, Denmark, employs some 30 professionals.
